  1. Bullmastiff. With the right temperament.

My baby has passed now, but excelled in making the right decisions re: what was wrong and what was ok.

Though, the term 'guard dog' does not tell me just exactly what u mean still.

I am just relating my experience with a family dog who was Bullmastiiff.

  2. A Rottweiler or a doberman

    vote best please

  3. I have two pits at home. One of them is the gaurd dog. Everytime he hears something outside, he goes CRAZY... The other one? Let's just say, a burglar walks into the house, and she would hope they would play with her.Pretty much, yeah. I have the perfect gaurd dog. He is very well mannered and friendly to everyone, as long as he knows that they are okay. He gets anxious and a little growly when there is someone knew, but that is just how I expect him to react. I'm safe knowing someone comes into my home and they are not expected, they will be very sorry to have met my dog.

  4. Besides a huge Bull Mastiff, I would prefer a large Pit Bull, Rottweiler, German Shepherd or Doberman.

  5. Bull Mastiffs are lazy. if your house was actually burglarize he would just stand there and look stupid. i would go with a rottweiler  or a doberman

  6. yeah i would any dog can be a good guard dog just depends how their raised

  7. for the most part they look imposing, but are actually very mild-mannered.

  8. I don't know much about Bull Mastiffs.

I do, however, know about German Shepherds.  We have one, and she's a pretty reliable guard dog.  Very protective over the members of our family.

They need a LOT of exercise, however, and they don't tire easily.

We also have an American Pit Bull Terrier.  He's not really a good guard dog.  He barks a lot, but when it comes down to it, he craves human attention, and guarding/protecting really isn't his thing.

  9. look at this site. it has a top ten.

  10. Why would you want a guard dog?  They have technology for that ya know.

  11. depends on what youre going for. i think youre best bet would be a german shepherd. , doberman or rottie. :)

  12. My guard dog is a FILA Mastiff. A completely different attitude than a bull mastiff.. WATCH OUT with the fila breed or you WILL have injury's piling up. If you want a TRUE estate and family protection breed the Fila gets up to 210 pounds... Yes. I said Two hundred and ten pounds! Our female nearly grabbed our vet by the throat. The ability to administer shots is HIGHLY recommended before you get such a breed. A fila mastiff takes three years to mature. So you will have a huge love able puppy for about two and a half years then within six months you will see a change in your dog. They are a natural guarding breed. When that change happens the dog turns into one that hates strangers.

This is a guard breed that can not be re homed. Be careful with this breed if you go with it. The Bull mastiff is a gentle giant compared to the Fila and where the Bull mastiff is not aggressive it makes up for it in pure intimidation

  13. Bull Mastiff's are scary looking but they usually are super friendly. if you want a guard dog then i'd go for something like a german shepherd, or rottweiller [spelling is off i know lol]
