Question:

Would You Take a Lie This Far?

I have a co-worker who is not exactly the most competent. He's plays his music loud and complains when higher authority tells him what to do (and then it still rarely gets done). Because we are in a slow moment, he has taken off a lot lately. Mistake 1 was to tell me that he was going to call off because it went into 3 days. #2 was to tell the receptionist that he had both the flu and bronchitis but would be in the next day (which was payday). Of course, when he came back as promised, there was no trace that he'd been ill. Not saying people can't recover quickly but I know that it's rare.

My office is one of those 'take one for the team' environments so in his absence, I have to do some of his assigned duties. Not a good feeling when someone's crying wolf. Now, he says that because he's lost a relative, that he will need at least a week off.

Are they lying? I'd like to think not but I've already seen with my own eyes his lies and deception but this would be going too far.

  1. of course he's lying! trust your gut.

report him immediately of your suspicions. your office is a team player one? i'm sure they won't condone this behavior any farther in the least.

and the only reason why he's taken the lie this far is because you've allowed him to!

  2. WOW!! I guess you never actually realize the extent some people will go to, to have a day off. Is the work that he is "supposedly " performing some type of hard labor? What is making him so tired, or he just lazy? Sometimes there are also underlying circumstances that make you just want to stay home. Too much partying, not enough sleep? Nevertheless, all I can say is that sometimes people just dont appreciate the fact that they are employed.
