For a week or two? I'm getting a 55g either this weekend or the next one but I have a 10g now. Would the 10 be okay for a week or two? Its still a baby and I was going to use the 10g for feeders, but I have a 2g that can work until I get the 55g for the snake.

I don't have the snake yet. I'm still in the process of conviencing my mom. She doesn't care how muh money I put up for it . . . but I'm very close to a yes. :]

  1. If its a baby, then yes it should be fine.

A 55g right off the bat may be a little large for a baby snake.

They can get stressed out if in a large environment.  I'd divide the tank in half, you can use a Plexiglas divider or mesh to make it smaller.

As he grows you can make the tank larger for him.

  2. agreed but you can also just provide numerous hides and plenty of foliage to make them feel more secure thats what we do for our baby Brazilian rainbow boa

  3. The size will be fine. What are these posters thinking of when they say a large tank will stress out a baby snake? How do they think baby snakes survive in the wild? Outside is pretty large, right? Are you sure you want a water snake. They can be very aggressive, regardless of how much you handle them and their diet consists mostly of fish. Also, their tanks must contain a large amount of water and it's hard to keep clean & the confined moisture will eventually cause skin & respiratory problems with your snake. Just points to consider. Good luck.

  4. Do you understand how aggressive these are? I know you said you don't mind an aggressive snake, but these are bad. I've caught them, and I've never gotten bit, but I know that their blood contains an anti-coagulant which causes the bite to bleed a lot. Plus their teeth are wicked. AND they can't eat the feeder goldfish that you get at the pet store, because they contain a chemical that can really harm the snake. This chemical is known as thiamanese, which destroys thiamin which is usually fatal. You will have to get expensive fish to feed it every 5-7 days. I hope this helps you.
