Question:

Would a 540 watt sound system work for a Highschool dance.?

It will be in a cafeteria, so there fore it will be in a concrete room.

  1. You probably will be just fine with a 540 watt system.  Cafeterias usually have poor acoustics but there is not much you can do about that.

    No matter how much power you have it will not be loud enough for some and will be too loud for others.

    Always make sure you are not driving your amps into clipping too much.  That is what damages speakers.  The amps or powered speakers should have some type of clip indicator.

    Also make sure you use speaker stands and get the speakers up over people's heads.  It is a total waste of your power to leave them on the floor like some DJ's do.

I sincerely doubt it but it depends on the accoustics of the room.  You usually need at least 1000 watts.  More is always better.  More watts doesn't mean louder just that it will tend to have better frequency responce at higher volumes.  540 watts in a large room would most likely sound like poo
