  1. yes it will

  2. Yes it will work I am using mine now.  If you are concerned about other people or other laptops/desktops logging onto your network then they may need a wireless adapter if one isn't built in.

  3. Desktop or laptop, makes no difference in connecting a router so you can share your one broadband connection. You'll need a wireless card for your desktop or laptop to connect wirelessly, of course.

You do have broadband, right? Just plug a new wireless router ($30-$90+) from its WAN port into the Ethernet port of the existing broadband modem, then plug Ethernet lines from your computers' Ethernet ports to the router's (usually 4) Ethernet ports - or use (lots of) wireless connections.

OTOH if you have a simple dialup (56k) telephone modem, in theory that can be shared but I've never done so except using Linux. Since no router will connect to a dialup modem, you turn a computer into a router by running a router service program and do a software "connect" through an Ethernet hub [that the other computers connect to] with IP forwarding - very problematical when I tried to do so with Windows, but I first did this using Linux in 1993 before wireless or broadband existed.

You want to use an Ethernet port to connect to the router,  not USB. If your broadband modem has USB, it also has an Ethernet port - so use it.  You can use USB wireless adapters - no problem there.

Just bought and installed a new router here - Netgear WPN824 - which is all kinds of solid and fast compared to the DLink it replaced. Incredible wireless range too!

    Good luck!

  4. those of you whove read this question failed to see what is really being asked. for one yes you can connect the wireless router

to your computer with a ethernet  or usb cable. however the correct standard is ethernet, so this is the cable u should use.

but the question you asked is if a (wireless router will work with desktop) and well wirelesly NO! if you want to connect your router wirelessly to your computer you will need to purchase a 802.11 g

wireless card with a USB connection then it will work with no cables.

this is the same standard procedure used on laptops that dont have a wireless card.
