a bat uses sonar to navigate, and a B2 deflects them, so shouldn't a B2 be invisibleto a bat?

  1. Yes, a bat can smack into a stealth aircraft.

During the first gulf war, F-117 pilots found the bodies of dozens of dead bats around their aircraft in the mornings.  They were running into the parked aircraft in their pursuit of insects.

They said it was the first hard evidence the pilots had that stealth worked as advertised.

  2. your right i thing it wood i watch stuff a bout guns and aircraft and animals stuff like that thay shood do that on mythbusters lol

  3. Sonar is based on sound.  If the B-2 is moving faster than the speed of sound ( mach 1 ), the return from the bat's "echo" won't reach the bat until after the B-2 has also reached the bat.

At lower speeds, it's more dependant on the bats ability to (1) detect the B-2 and (2) recognize it as a threat.  I would be surprised if the bat couldn't detect the B-2 because of its ability (mentioned by others) to detect insects: and even to radar, the B-2 just has a reduced signature, not an invisible one.  Plus, being sound-based, the B-2 is likely generating a large sound signature.

The window for intercept is quite small.  According to the link I found (see sources) bats can range up to about 10,000 feet.  Most jet-powered aircraft operate well above this range ( the second link I provide mentions 50,000 ft. as the operational altitude for the B-2 ).

  4. bats can still see so no..yes they use it to navigate but there not blind..watch more tv lol

  5. Even though the B-2 is a stealth aircraft, and designed to minimize it's reflectivity...  a bat's ability to detect a tiny insect would give it the ability to sense the aircraft. The question here would be... would it know what it was running into about the time that it happened. Birds can see airplanes coming at them, but they still get hit because of the closure rate.. although some are able to "see and avoid."

  6. That is the dumbest question I have ever seen. Good luck with life.

    -10 points for me

  7. The B2 doesn't deflect what you call SONAR frequencies, it is effective for RADAR frequencies, which are several thousand MHz above what a bat can toss out.
