Would the conditions of the house and the body look much different between the two time frames of 1 year or 8 years?

This question is difficult to answer, whole generations of forensics are studying the decay of the human body in different circumstances. If the circumstances of the house are dry and stable, the body wouldn't change much between 1 and 8 years, but only if no animals (insects) get in contact with the body. In a more damp or moist surrounding, a body can decompose over years, resulting in very different looks after 1 or 8 years. You should ask a forensic scientist and describe exactly the circumstances in that house.
