  1. Border collies are smart enough to BUILD the cart!  They love working for a living so they could probably be trained to pull a cart.  Now they might pull it at 300 mph (they're fast too).

  2. As long as they have finished growing & matured then yes they would love it.

As "love is WDR" said as long as the load isnt to heavey then they will fine.

My 4 year old BC pulls my little boy up the hill on his bike:)

  3. They probably would, but rather grudgingly. Or, if they aren't trained, they won't at all.

Although they are strong, intelligent, fast, enduring dogs, they aren't the breed of dogs that do pulling, like a mastiff or german shepherd.

They are for herding, not pulling.

Since they aren't 'made' for pulling, it may injure their backs, and joints. My advice: No, even if it's a 'small cart' they shouldn't lug around loads -- especially of things as heavy as wood.

  4. Border collies are the little genius' of the dog world.  And very few people can handle a border collie.  I currently have one who is the laziest dog you will ever find.  I tried and tried to find "jobs" for him to do.  But, he will sit, study the problem, and figure out the laziest way to accomplish whatever I want him to do.  You can literally see him studying the problem and thinking about how to do it.

I wouldn't suggest a border collie for most people.  And definitely not to pull a cart.  If you want a dog to pull a cart, I'd think a sled dog such as a husky would be a better choice.  Husky's are about the same size as a border collie but they prefer to run.  They do love to pull things though.  Good luck.

  5. Border Collies aren't notoriously STRONG.  They have excellent endurance, intelligence, and work ethic, so... as long as you kept the load light, the dog would LOVE the job.
