Question:

Would a car with a dent in the hood fail inspection?

I have a 99 Mercury Mystique and got into a minor accident about 2 years ago. I finally decided to fix it myself. All the repairs are almost done, but my father says it wont pass inspection because of the hood dent. Which is only a slight dent from the impact.

  1. Just tell the inspector it took you days and days of work to get it like that. It's just the way you like it.

  2. wouldnt think it would but who knows hey hit the dent with hammer its how we always fix them

  3. Your father must have some reason for thinking that.

What are you not telling us?

Does the dent interfere with the hood latching mechanism?

    Visability?

    DIY body work -- impressive!

  4. No, it will pass assuming there are no tears in the metal or the dent isn't obsructing any mechanics under the bonnet.

  5. Depending on the size of the dent, your shouldn't have any problem.  The inspections are really intended to make sure the vehicle is safe and road worthy.  If doesn't have to be cosmetically perfect.

  6. If it is secured and does not impair your vision of the road, it will not have any effect on the inspection. You can even remove the hood if you want.
