Question:

Would a cat eat a ferret?

Cats would probably eat a prey creature the size of a ferret, like a squirrel or something, but would they kill a predator like a ferret or could they get along? Also, would ferrets be better on the leash than my housecats that are scared to leave the house?

  1. Yes a cat would definitely try eating a ferret They might get bitten a lot in the process But i doubt that would stop them My cousin has a cat and a couple ferrets and the cat is always trying to go after them As for the lease Most ferrets are kinda jumpy But ive taken my cousins ferrets outside on a leash before and its just funny the way they act They jump around Roll around And run around So i think you would have fun with your ferret outside As long as youre not planning on walking around the block or anything But im sure some ferrets would walk around the block So try it out

  2. Actually, I've heard of quite a few people with ferrets say the ferrets are the one's who will attack a cat. They're quite territorial;)

  3. I've had ferrets and cats before. The cats play with the ferrets until the ferrets bite them. My cats would find a high place to rest to get away from the ferrets. Ferrets are very active while cats are pretty complacent. In my experience, cats do not prey on ferrets.

Ferrets do well on a harness and leash, but remember that ferrets are nearsighted. If your ferret doesn't want to walk around outside, don't force it. If you want to walk a ferret, be prepared to carry it part of the time, as they do tire out. I used to take one of my ferrets out with me during the winter months and hide him in my jacket. He would sleep in my sleeve. One night, I went to the gas station with him in my jacket, and when it came time to pay the attendant, my ferret decided to take a look at who I was talking to. He poked his head out right underneath my chin, and the attendant jumped back and let out a scream! Once I let the attendant see what the ferret was, he was OK.

If you get a ferret, be prepared to laugh a lot. They are clowns. They don't really form bonds with people, but they like people just the same. They climb up very well, like up a leg or up on a couch, but they don't climb down as easily. They fall off things well, though. I heard my share of ferrets falling, hitting the ground, say "oof", and scamper off like nothing happened. They also try to slide down head first. Their brains must be very tiny, but they are happy creatures.

    Good luck on your decision.

  4. I have both cats and ferrets. You have to monitor the cats around your ferrets for their first few interactions, but generally they get along well. If the ferret is small and still a baby you will not want to leave it alone with cats until it is older and bigger. If you get a proper fitting harness for ferrets they love to go outside and explore, and do very well with a harness.
