I also have my bachelors n masters in psychology, but plan to change fields. no experience in graphic designing whatsoever. will a certification course (about a year and a half long) be good to get an entry level job?

Any other tips?

  1. Well, actually, from what my professors have told me, it's all based on your portfolio. I beg to differ with them. A lot of jobs now require at least a bachelors degree. Companies have software that electronically weed out applications/resumes that don't list bachelors degrees. Now since you do have a bachelors and masters (but not in Graphic Design), then maybe you'll get seen. If that's the case, then your portfolio should be pretty strong. Just as a back up, why don't you call a few places that hire graphic designers and explain your situation, that if you received a certification, would you have a chance at a job and how important is your portfolio if you don't have a bachelors degree? Just some ideas. Best of luck to you and take care.
