Would a chain and swivel make a difference on my 70lb punching bag?

You see I have two chains that hang the bag up but the problem is it has four links. The bag's weight hangs all at the bottom and the top is very light. The bootom feels like a rock and the top feels like a pillow. How can I fix this problem? It really messes up my work out. Should I buy a new chain and swivel.

  1. no.

a heavy bag doesn't last forever. sounds like your bag is past its time and it is time to get a new one. try going to craigslist.org in your area. a lot of times people will be willing to give away or sell something for really cheap as long as you pick it up from them. if nothing turns up you can also try calling gyms and sking them if they have any older but still functioning heavy bags they can sell you. for a brand new one go to ringside.com or everlast.com

having your own heavy bag isn't that important. it would be far better to go to a boxing gym where you can use theirs plus their speed bag, double end bag, head hunter, upper-cut bag, etc... plus you cannot teach yourself to box you will only develop bad habbits that way

  2. Turn your bag upside down.

  3. "Fighter" is right.

Furthermore. . . . weight distribution throughout a heavybag has nothing to do with how it is hung up, whether it's a chain, swivel, or shoelaces.  It has to do with the age of the bag, the quality of the bag, and the amount of usage the bag has endured.

If the bag's weight has settled to the bottom, then it's time to get a new bag, or at least, access to a newer bag.  It simply isn't safe to punch higher up on a bag that has lost it's bulk up high. . . . you could injure your wrists.  Good question.
