I just recently switched my African Fat Tailed Gecko from a 10 gallon aquarium into a older 55 gallon aquarium (one of the ones that is taller then wide) I was thinking of getting a fountain for him but the different pet stores are telling me different things. The one told me that it would raise the humidity to much and the other told me it would be ok...

  1. Because they are from somewhere that has a mid-range humidity during the day, you'd probably be fine in that big of a tank.  Just remember not to make it too deep, because fatties cannot swim well AT all.  I'd suggest making the pool only about an inch deep or putting rocks in the bottom to make it that deep.

I'd be interested to see pics when you're done!

  2. I answered a question similar to this earlier , it was about a snake though , but since snakes and gecko's are much alike , yes you can probably have a fountain in your gecko's cage , but if you pick up the gecko and his temperature has changed significantly then i would suggest taking the fountain out , hope this helped = ) ~ carmelicious ~

  3. it would raise the humidity, but fat tails like it more humid. but that would be ok.

  4. It'd be okay. Most tanks have a screen lid which causes humidity to be lost very fast. Just make sure you have a hygrometer in there to monitor humidity.
