Question:

Would a freshwater clam clear up my green cloudy tank?

I was doing some research and supposedly they filter algae out of the water and eat the leftover food in the bottom of the tank.

There were some good points and bad points of getting one.

What do you think?

And where is a responsible place to get an appropriate kind? Liveaquaria.com is sold out.

Thank you in advance for your answers.

  1. Freshwater clams will not eat algae and when it dies, it makes your water stink and all other fishes will die. Chinese algae eater will kill your other fishes aggressively when it grows big. You can buy a pleco to eat algaes, i bought one 4 days ago, though it would clean up wastes at the bottom. After experiencing with pleco, i realized that it does not eat wastes, but only eat pellets and leftover foods when the light is off, but it poops most than you feed it, eventhough you don't feed it it still poops a lot.

  2. do you have a pleco or a catfish? they will eat the algae and the left over food, which there shouldnt be any so maybe dont give them as much food each time. make sure you have plenty of filtration too!

  3. i dont recommended, that clam may pose a danger to your fishes.its not safe at all.
