Would a human eating a Chimp (especially bonobos) be considered cannibalism?

Since Chimpanzees DNA is so close to ours and Bonobo Chimps are even closer to us.

  1. No. Cannibalism only refers to eating your own kind. Period.


  2. No it wouldn't be cannibalism, but I wish they would make it a crime.  Bush meat is really a sad thing.  They are too close to us and beyond that they are too intelligent and special to kill for for a few steaks.

  3. No, its not Cannibalism. A far warning though, the closer you are related to something you eat the more likely you are to contract any kind of disease that it has due to how alike your natural body systems are.

  5. No. Cannibalism means eating one's own species, and despite the genetic similarity of humans and chimps, we are different species. It's certainly too close for my taste though, I wouldn't fancy eating any of the apes, even if they weren't endangered species. Incidentally, chimps have been known to kill and eat human babies.

    By the way, chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) and bonobos (Pan paniscus) are different species.
