  1. Depends on many variables;

    -The age and ability of the bear

    -The species of bear

    -The age and ability of the human

    -The quality of the sword

    -Who saw who first

    etc..

  2. If he was lucky, and struck a deadly blow before the bear tore him apart.

  3. Could a human with a sword win a fight against a bear, yes.  He could also lose the fight.

  4. (I am assuming you mean a large species, adult bear.)

    Yes, if lucky or skilled enough (I suspect luck would count for more).

    There are cases of people beating off bear attacks with just rocks, axes and knives.

    If you are asking about a fight to the death the odds of the swordman winning start to go from very, very, very low to infintesimal.  ANd lower still if he picks a fight with a female with cubs.

  5. Native Americans used sharpened sticks with one end in the ground, and the other sharpened end pointed towards the charging bear, allowing the bear to in a sense kill himself, using the bear own momentum.

    As for a sword I seriously doubt you could match or challenge the bears wicked strength or speed. Only way I see you getting even close is to use the Native Americans method, and let the bear fall on top of you while you held the sword upward that might work, and that a big might as the bear stands pretty tall even on all four legs.

    Conclusion= Possible ,but not reccomended.

    P.S. If you decide to try this please record it, as I would enjoy seeing this very much.   :o)
