Don't know much about thermostats.

Looking to replace the one that came with the house. It's the type that you had to slide to change the temperature and has the metal liquid (can't think of the name) behind the cover. Has wiring inside.

It doesn't turn off by itself and has given us a few problems such as heating when its supposed to cool and as I mentioned not turning off immediately or even near the temperature we set it on.

Interested in replacing it with a Hunter model 44110 or 44110A.

  1. Shut off the power to the air handler before you change the stat or you could smoke the transformer and have to replace that too.Lot of options to consider in buying a new one.Programmable, non programmable, gas, electric, heat pump, digital, mercury, etc.Study up on them and ask questions before purchasing one.

  2. Do not buy a hunter thermostat they are the bigest piece of garbage. youre best bet is honneywell, white and rodgers, or robertshaw. And the answer to your question is yes any thermostat will work with your trane unit.the unit in your attic is your airhandler/furnace and the unit outside is you condenser

for your a/c. and the liquid in your old thermostat is mercury and should be disposed of properly

  3. before you go changing your thermstat, make sure it the root of your problem, most a/cshas delays in them as well as the heat cycle.the heat canl run for up to 5 min. before it turns the air handler off, most of the time its just cooling down the heat strips and depending on where your therm. is located will determen how long it runs also. the liq.stuff your referring to is mercury. always remember when buying anykind of electrical parts you tend to get what you pay for. but yes a hunter therm. will work on a trane, nothing runs like a trane

  4. Yes it will work just fine. Make sure you mark the wires and hook it up exactly like the old ones. Mercury is the word you were looking for.

  5. on a trane heat pump there is a delay in heat mode no do not change t-stat call a tech if you have a problem with it its usually the system not the t-stat a lot of people change the t-stat thinking that will cure the problem it just makes it worse and those hunter t-stats are c**p hunter should stick to ceiling fans
