If a prince were to be made king would his sister be considered a princess or a queen if there was no others in the bloodline alive other than himself and his sister?

Or is there another title that she would be called?

  1. The king's sister is a princess and remains a princess upon her brother's succession to the throne. It is ONLY the king's wife who becomes Queen Consort.

Royals usually carry more than one title;they carry their royal title and a royal peerage title as well.So a princess can also be a royal duchess, royal marchioness, royal countess, royal baroness.

  2. In the commonwealth realms (eg UK, Canada, Australia etc.) and most other kingdoms, the sibling of a monarch is usually called a prince or princess. However, this is not automatic.  The children of a monarch are always called prince and princess, and children of the male children of the monarch are also called prince and princess (usually - Prince Edward and Princess Sophie asked permission from the queen for their children to not be called Prince or Princess).

If a new monarch comes to the throne but did not fill the above criteria, then their siblings would not automatically be known as Prince or Princess.  In fact the new monarch would have to give permission for this, but it would be expected that this would be the case.

  3. princess

  4. In some countries or areas she would be a countess.  It all depends, as others noted.

  5. princess, duchess or possibly grand duchess.

No, a princess does NOT ascend to Queen when her brother ascends to King.  His wife gets that title.

And NOT a countess.  That would be some one really low in the ranks of nobility.  A princess would NOT become a countess by losing her father, the king.
