If it's to be judged ONLY in sun sign terms then yes, they would get along pretty well since air(the element of gemini) and fire(element of leo) compliment each other. However it can be altered with other things in the natal chart.

But I think it wouldn't matter what signs they are because when people get along things just naturally fall into place regardless of what sign they are. And friendship DEFINITELY isn't about what you are in astrology.
