Would a male betta and 3 female bettas go with these fish?

I am buying an 80 - 150 gallon tank and already have 10 fancy guppies, I saw a male betta at my pet shop and he was in the guppies tank... so would it be appropriate to put him, and 3 females in the 80 - 150 gallon tank with my guppies, plus mollies, platys, neon tetras, angelfish, corys, otos, and 1 dwarf gourami?

Don't eat my head off... think about my selection, don't just straight away say... "THOSE ANGELFISH WILL BITE THE BETTAS!" or "THE BETTAS ARE TOO AGGRESSIVE!" The females were in a tank with other fish like mollies and platys etc... and I am getting THREE (3) female bettas to ONE (1) male! And the angelfish - I am getting 2/3, so they will be too busy picking on each other to even think about the bettas... and the neons and guppies will be in large groups, so they should be fine with the bettas right? That's what I heard anyway... The tank is gonna be heated, filtered and aerated... THANK YOU!

  1. If you put a lot of plants and rocks for hiding,I donnt think there should be a problem. Just be careful with your male betta, I know you dont want me to tell you about his aggressiveness, but he could become a threat to your female bettas after a while when they are done mating, however, with a very large tank such as the one you wanna buy, there shouldnt be any problem.

  2. well I did that before and what happened was that the male beta kept eating away at the female betas tails until they dint have tails anymore they ended up dying only put a female and male beta together when ur trying to breed them and u only do it after the bumble nest is done other wise the male will chase the female around with no real purpose more with intent to kill her if anything, also the angelfish are great with all those u mentioned but with one little tiny problem I'm sure u can fix make sure with any fish that are considered cyclids like the gourami that u have at least 3 of them otherwise they will kill each other having 3 of them or just one like u said is ok but never do pairs cause they will turn on each other, angelfish are pretty aggressive also I only had two in my tank and they were fine and they lived very long healthy lives lol so I guess that's ok all the fish u have chosen to put in one tank are ok, u may want to consider one thing on ur tank that one person I knew did when putting a beta in the tank with other fish (other fish have a bad habit of eating the betas tail till he cant swim no more and eventually he would die) find a pretty large round clear tube and insert it int he tank down to the bottom in the gravel at the bottom make sure it is the same height as the tank this way it serves as a separator for ur male beta and he can still live in with ur other fish but without running the rick of him being eaten by the others. As for the females I would do the same but in separate tubes from the male 2 females together is fine females aren't aggressive like males are :) hope this helped some :) GL!

  3. A single male betta with 3 female betta have been successfully done before, although it's really rare that it ever succeeds. When the agelfish gets bigger than the male betta, it will usually win in a fight because they are much faster than the betta. Good luck, you'll need it.

  4. Hey there,

Ok the Male Betta will attack the females, thats just the way it is. These 2 fish should never be put together unless you are doing it for breeding purposes.

Guppies looks too much like Male Bettas, the Male Betta will also attack them and if he doesn't the angel fish will eat them. Guppies sleep at night and angels eat them when the lights are out...believe me this was a mistake i made. Angel fish, once big enough will also devour the tetras irrelevant of the schooling size of the fish. Angel fish are great hunters and do get their meal eventually.

Your gourami will also look to the guppies, tetras and any fry as food.

Not really the ideal selection of fish, you can try if you like but i think you will find it quite heartbreaking as most of the fish will vanish.

    Goodluck.

  5. I don't know -- I don't think that's a good mix.  Here's a very good site that gives you lots of info.  Hopefully it will tell you all that you need to know.

  6. i see u know ur stuff but ur guppies will eat ur bettas (male) fins off cause thats wat they do otherwise it should all be fine

  7. dont keep male bettas with female bettas

  8. As other people have said, it's not a good idea to keep a male betta with female bettas.  If they succeed in spawning, males may attack or even kill the female, because the male takes care of the eggs (and doesn't want any competition from mommy after she has contributed eggs to his bubble nest).

  9. Make sure the tank has plenty of places to hide and swim around and put all the fish in but not the male betta (as everyone else has said).
