Would a marriage in the U.S. between an American citizen and a Chinese Citizen be legal in China?

  1. Yes, I have a coworker who was married in China and brought his wife over.  He just needed to show the US embassy the certificate and they validated it.

  3. This is very deceptive. It's true that a marriage in one country becomes an indicative factor that the couple had been married in another country, but the legal effect does not whole carry all the legal aspect into another country.

    What I mean is that you can have a copy of your marriage certificate certified by Notary public and or the US embassy in China and use in China for whatever purpose you may want to in China. But, for the marriage to be effective legally in China, i.e. legally signify that both the couple become one person, for example for inherit each other legacy, or doing any other legal action, you may need to register your marriage again in China, or if you are in the US at the Chinese Embassy in the US.

    In any event, laws are different from country to country. Please check Chinese embassy to this effect.
