I'm thinking of buying a new Eagle Claw minnow trap on ebay and I was just wondering if they would catch crawdads too. Also what are the best baits for catching minnows. I made a homemade minnow trap with the 2 liter bottle thing and I used bread and crackers but I didn't catch any over night and I heard that worked good. Thank you!

  1. It might work, but there are probably better devices.  ON my farm we catch crawfish in the minnow traps, but we catch more crawfish in the crawfish traps.  The opening on the crawfish trap in better suites for their shape/size body to go through.  You can pick them up at walmart for 7 or 8 dollars, they are about 12 x 12 inches x 6 inches high.  Bait them with a small can of cat food.

  2. Everything has it's let downs at times. But check the price on a trap in your area and you might come out spending less since there wouldn't be any shipping fee.Try using bacon as a bait for the crawdads though. The crackers will actually work better than bread in a trap.Scout out areas where you actually see the bait you want though before putting your trap out.

Fair warning though you might have more crawdads on the outside of the trap rather than inside.

Good luck and I hope it gets better for you

  3. yes, you can use a minnow trap for catching crawdads, i would try corn as a minnow bait and for crawdads i would use a bit of chicken liver.

  4. They will catch crawdads.I would use a can of tuna with holes poked in the top for both of them.
