  1. It really depends on the title the lord holds, and how many. If the Lord only hold one title, like  'Duke'  ' Marquess'  'Baron' etc... the son is usually addressed as 'Mr.'.

However, a lord may hold a number of Titles. He is called by the highest. Say we have Duke Westmont. He is refered to as a Duke, but he also holds a title of Marquess and Viscount. His son takes the second highest rank, in this case Marquess.

If he is a duke, his son will have a title of Marquess. If he is a Marquess, his son will be titled as a lord. If he is a Viscount, the son in calle 'The Honorable..." dido with Baron. When the father dies, the son inherits the title and it's holdings.

It really depends on the number of titles a man holds and the calibur.

  2. In a word, yeah.

  3. A lord is just a form of address to a noble person. In the UK, the list of peerage includes (highest to lowest):

Duke/Duchess - Your Grace, Your Grace

Marquess/Marchioness - My Lord, My Lady

Earl/Countess - My Lord, My Lady

Viscount/Viscountess - My Lord, My Lady

Baron/Baroness - My Lord, My Lady

Therefore, any noble except "Dukes and Duchesses" are address as "My Lord and My Lady." Eldest sons of dukes, marquesses and earls use their fathers' highest secondary titles as courtesy titles. Therefore, the sons are "Lords" if their courtesy titles are from within the five English peerage ranks. Other sons who does not receive a peerage title obviously will not be address as "Lords."

  4. if the lord died than yes his son would take over.

  5. No, but when the noble lord's son would inherit the property, the slaves, and the title. Noble lord's daughter wouldn't inherit anyhting though.

  6. Yes.Eldest  sons take the next title down of their father. The peers usually hold more than one title. Earl Spencer,Viscount Althorp passed is title of Viscount to his only son when the child was born.

Here is another example, using fictional names:

The Duke of Westmintser,Marquess Utley,Earl Renard,Viscount Such,Baron London has a son as his firstborn child. The new boy becomes Marquess Utley.

If the Duke has another son,or a daughter, the son becomes Lord Given Name Surname and the daughter Lady Given Name Surname.
