Question:

Would a scorpion exhaust possibly cause me to lose power on my gsxr?

I have a 2005 gsxr 750 and I just replaced the stock can with a new scorpion oval slip-on pipe... It doesn't feel as strong under acceleration as it did. Is it likely that I lost power or I am just not used to the extra noise and am not on the gas as hard? Does anyone have any dyno results for a scorpion pipe or something of the sort? Thanks

  1. did you re-map the fuel injection, if not then yes, you lost power and reliability.  get it remapped (power commander, etc.)

  2. I'm guessing that overall, Suzuki knows how that bike should be built. Just guessing.

  3. You DO NOT need a power commander with a slip on pipe. I repeat you DO NOT need a power commander. You change the way the bike exhales so you have to adjust air intake and fuel delivery. A power commander handles fuel delivery but you don't need it. you can just have the stock chip program tweaked. A performance air filter would help as well.

I agree with the other guy that you probably have reduces back pressure so there's not as much bite as before. It's cool unless you smell unburnt fuel or start backfiring.

  4. You did loose some torque, I'd say. I don't know much about GSXR's or bikes in general, but when you get rid of back pressure, you loose torque. Your bike now has some more top end engine power, at the cost of midrange torque. Thats how it worked with my exhaust on my Honda Prelude, and generally is how it works. I highly doubt you lost any horsepower
