I recently graduated with a BS in Criminal Justice. While i was in school i only worked twice and both jobs have nothing to do with Criminal justice. They were customer serivce postions. Also i never did an Internship (which was a big mistake). Basically now that i have graduated i want to some how get into the CJ field...prob is i dont have any experience and so i was thinking a Security Guard would be a good option.

What do you think? Would a security guard job be good for a person who needs to get into the Criminal justice field and then work my way up from there?

  1. You didnt state what kind of job you are looking for. With your degree, look into the F.B.I., Secret Service, C.I.A. etc. all federal jobs. Your lack of experience is ok.  Nothing wrong with a security officer except it probably wont pay that much though.

  2. You can look into retail.  Target, Walmart, and some grocery stores all have Security Executives.  Also think of Airports.  I don't think a security guard job is a good starting job.  Most "security guards" are not near the same education level you have attained.  If you are going to do  a security guard job, do it at a higher level like an airport.  You have picked a tough field.  Unless you are going to be a police officer, retail or airports are about your only option.  I agree with the FBI, CIA, or Secret Service.  You better have been at the top of your class or continue school to get a Masters if you choose this option.
