Would a serious-about-work Capablanca have beaten Alekhine in a world chess title rematch in - say, 1929?

  1. No doubt. Capablanca only lost the first time because he totally underestimated Alekhine. Capablanca never lost to him until '27. He had a 10 wins to 7 loss record against Alekhine. Alekhine even avoided the required rematch against him. After the world championship, Alekhine only beat him once. Even after Capablanca came back from his 3 year departure from serious chess, he still beat Alekhine. Capablanca would have beat him, and HE would have been the only chess player in history to have won back his title, instead of Alekhine.

    But, I really don't have the chess expertise to truly be sure.
