my snake hasnt eaten in over 2 weeks and its starting to look kind of skinnier then before. i was trying to feed it this mouse for like 5 days and it wont eat it. so i was wondering if it wont eat it because it probably to used to the smell of the mouse, he isnt hungry, or he just doesnt want to eat.

  1. yep he will once he gets hungry

  2. my sumatran was like that wat king of snake....they hunt et night get a small mouse put both snake n mouse in a container and put it in the dark and he should eat...if not take him to a good petstore to force feedhin

  3. A snake shouldn't begin to loose weight so quickly, most species can hold for a couple of weeks with no apparent change. I suggest you take your snake to a vet as soon as you can to have it checked.

  4. It's hard to know whether to be concerned or not, without knowing the age of the snake, and its normal feeding pattern/frequency.

How long has it been since its last feeding, and did it eat well then?  Has the allotted amount of time elapsed since its last feeding, and now is it yet two additional weeks beyond its normal feeding for this time?

A snake doesn't loose weight quickly, and can go for a month (or much longer) depending on the type/age of the snake between meals with no real weight loss, or harm done.

If the reptile is loosing weight quickly and refusing to eat; it could be disease, or a parasite problem.

Are you sure the animal is hydrated, and drinking enough water?

Is the temperature in its enclosure adequate/correct?  Do you monitor the heat source(s) often, to be sure the pad hasn't spiked or gone bad?

If the snake is approaching a shed, it will refuse to eat until it completes the shed (it will need increased humidity; using a mist bottle, or cool steam mister is helpful, and make sure it has a heavy ceramic crock to soak in, placed closer to the warm end of its enclosure).

But - the weight loss is a concern.  Reptiles are slow to exhibit signs of illness, and by the time they show symptoms, the problem is usually well advanced.

I would recommend taking the snake to a reptile vet, just to be safe/sure it is not a health issue.

I hope this has been helpful, and I hope the snake improves soon.

  5. You're snake might be in the early stages of shedding, My Florida King-snake just ate 2 mice about an hour ago but when she is in her shed stage sometimes she will not eat for up to 3 weeks, It just depends on her mood. I have seen her shed completely from start to finish take about 5 day & other times it takes 2 or 3 weeks. I got worried one time when she did not eat fo a month but when she finally did eat she ate 3 mice. I would not worry to much.

  6. If the snake dosent eat

wait a few days before trying again

    never try to feed everyday
