Would a studded belt set off metal detectors?

You bet. and they will probably profile you for your fashion choice and send you through secondary.  Pack it in your check through luggage and stop thinking that you are going to wow the mate of your dreams on the flight with your radical chic.

Remove and send them through the scanner with your other metal objects -- phone, pen, coins, keys, etc.  They provide plastic bins that roll through the scanner.  Also, you might have to send your shoes through -- depends on the signs or info posted while you're waiting to go through.  If unsure, just ask!  They'd rather answer simple questions than get the line backed-up by having to do additional checking because people are forgetting to remove all metal.

I speak from experience when i say yes they do ( cough nearly got arrested cough ) most airports and the like give you little trays to put stuff like that in , or simply remove the belt until your able to put it back on, better than having everyone stare at u.. =)
