Would a tree die if all leaves were cut?

  3. This would completely depend on if it was a good year for the tree (lots of water, good soil) or a bad year ( no water, bad soil) and how old/ big the tree is.

    If the tree was able to it could use what nutrients it already had stored up and get some things from the ground. Then it could re make all the leaves.

    If it was a bad year then it could possibly not have enough stores to keep all of its self alive and parts would die to decrease the load. If there was still not enough it would die.

    Either way, it could still die once there were no more nutrients in the soil to help grow the leaves and help it live.

  4. No, most trees will survive if all the leaves are cut off.  Most trees, except pines, lose all their leaves yearly naturally.

    The tree has enough stored reserves to get by until new leaves sprout.  If you keep cutting the new leaves off you will eventually kill the tree.  It will not be fast though.
