Would a venus fly trap bite kittens or cats near it?

I just got 2 new kittens and have 4 other cats. We were thinking about getting a venus fly trap to get rid of the flys around our door so they dont get in our house. Would it be safe to put it out there around our cats or is it possible it will hurt them?

  1. They don't bite or have real teeth. If it did bite your cat, the jaws move pretty slowly and have very little real strength, so it's not even going to pinch the cats' skin. It's safe.

I'd be more worried if it was a cactus around a dog. Dogs like to bite cactus.

  2. wow, some of these people sound very naive. my kitten, mittens, was eaten alive by a venus fly trap last summer. be careful or you will lose all your cats before you know it.

  3. Agree, safe for cats.  However, next to useless for controlling flies.  If your plant eats three the whole Summer, I'd be surprised.  These are not voracious things.

  4. the venus fly trap won't hurt your cats but the cats might damage the plant if they get interested in it,the plant won't catch enough flys to do you much good, few plants, many flys....i did find out a praying mantis could catch and eat a humming bird....just threw that in for anybody interested, see it on you tube..........tom

  5. They dont bite and they dont hurt.  They close very slowly when a fly gets trapped in it's "glue"

  6. They don't "bite". They simply close their "fingers" to trap insects. They won't hurt the little kittens.
