A man named spidey575 asked the question directed towards african americans is BET racist and he got many cruel remarks and then he posted another question saying that he got many uneccesary comments.

Now I'm seeing how people would react to this question. I'm not trying to start a debate but I just want to get honest answers from every race.

And please give reason towards your answer.

  1. I dont know if it would be considered racist but more like redundant. Anyone who wants to argue that there needs to be a television channel devoted to this would be missing the many, many channels already catering to this audience.

And in the end it isnt so much about the color of your skin but the money in your pocket. Television shows are just ways to keep people in their seats so advertisers can sell products. The niche marketing that has sprung up isnt in the name of equality or even race politics but money. The producers realize there isnt a market or channel advertising directly to these communities so thats why they have it. Not to be racist but to make money.

I dont understand why people always get upset about BET existing in the first place. Anyone can watch and anyone can advertise on it if thats who they are marketing to. You wont market adult diapers during Gossip Girl commercial and nobody cries about agism. And if they had shows with all-black families on other channels or all-Asian families it doesnt seem to do as well on networks than on a channel like BET. If producers/advertisers made other inclusive shows work- instead of stunt casting like finally giving Ross a black girlfriend on Friends even though they live in New York and you never see minorities on that show before- channels like BET wouldnt have to exist. There isnt a lot of diversity on channels and if there is it usually a stereotypical representation. So if you want to see someone speak, or look, or act like the people around you or in your family you have to turn the channel to networks like BET or Univsion. And not every person of color is watching those kinds of shows either.

We do not live in a color blind society. No matter how much we want to believe in that it simply isnt true. Things are not equal. But in television its not about aiming for equality but money. The reason we started to see Latinos on television wasnt because someone realized we are more than housekeepers or gardeners but because the census showed our community was growing fast in the U.S. That means more money to spend on products and that Latinos probably wanted to see something else than a messed-up stereotype. But once the hype of Latinos being the fastest growing minority was over (do you see news reporting this anymore) the shows with Latinos shrank.

  2. I have always thought about that, I am not racist by any means, but I think it is unfair that so many diffrent cultures get great things like gov. grants to go to school and gov. help and yet the gov. is all about this immagrant thing. I think people have to much pride in their stupid race WHO CARES??? you know who will think WET is racist, the african americans. Maybe they should make one for all races.

    MET for mexicans

    CET for chinese

h**l maybe a WTET white trash tv.

  3. WET has always existed. It is all the other channels except for BET.  BET would be racist if there weren't any other race on their line up. BET is geared toward a culture and not a race. That is a big difference.

  4. well WET would be unlikely because this is a mostly white country, and most of television caters towards this, so therefore there is no need for a WET television site

  5. Sadly, in today's world, WET would be considered thoroughly racist.  It shouldn't be but it is.

  6. Some of the comments are stupid. If u think about it, back when BET was created...Almost ALL of the television shows were geared towards white audiences. Please remember that during such a time, Blacks were not always allowed to be entertainers unless it was a menstral show, Therefore channels such as BET were created for a black audience and black entertainers. Nevertheless, there was 1 channel that was given to a Black audience while the rest of the channels were geared towards white audiences. there is no need for WET...h**l they have ALL OF THE TV if u do proper research u will find out the owners of BET and other channels are actually white. so even if we get our 1 little channel, there is still some white company taking in the dough...thats y BET is allowed to make us Black people look like uneducated bafoons. I hate BET...Blacks Embarassing Themselves....but in conclusion, no it wouldnt be necessary for there to be a WET no one distinguishes the MAJORITY, distinctions are made for minorities, ie. the latina chanel, and those channels who have different languages....there isnt a need to identify who is already running THE REST of the channels, because the audience already knows.

  7. yes, and all attention-seeking blacks would rally against such a thing.
