Would a wide angle lens on a slr camera help with group pictures?

Need to know what a wide angle lens does for a picture

A moderately wide angle lens is great for group shots. I would not use a extreme wide angle lens because you will get some distortion. If you have a zoom lens that has a range in 24-40mm area this should do the trick without any distortion.

A wide angle lens will give you more of a scene because the angle is wide however, I don't recommend it for group shots unless you don't mind the fact that the people towards the edges of the shot will be distorted.

A wide angle lens when used correctly will give you a wider perspective but it can distort your subject like body and face detail. P.S Don't ever use a wide angle lens when photographing a woman. She will never speak to you again.
