  1. A YZ125 would be better for harescrambles than your TTR. It is a race bike and your is meant for learners. Although it depends on how well you ride, any bike could be raced. If you feel that you are being slowed by your bike, meaning you want more power, than upgrade. If you have (or your parents) can afford to do so. You could also get a 250F which almost the same as the 125 just a four stroke. If you like four strokes better than get that. Just remember they are more expensive than a two stroke. So should you move up? That's for you to decide.  If you feel that you are being slowed by your bike, meaning you want more power, than upgrade. If power, suspension, feel of the bike is ok, then race harescrambles on your TTR.

  2. it could be, but you will be at a disadvantage because it doesnt have as much power.....

dont downsize to a ttr, I would get the YZ250F, and go with that......

the YZ250 F is the same size of bike as the YZ 125......

  3. Doing harescramble is not quite as easy on a 2 stroke as the power is not so even and if they tend to race against the 250cc 4 strokes then the 4 strokes do have an advantage when doing things like going up hillclimbs.

My sons used to do a lot of harescrambles on their kx125cc and while they managed it quite well the 4 strokes would take the hills much easier than they could on the kx125cc.

I guess much of it comes down to how good you are on a bike and if you want to have the edge against others who may be on the 2 strokes.

The ttr125 certainly isn't the same class of bike as even the 2 stroke 125cc.

Perhaps hang in there with the ttr till you feel you can cope with a 250cc 4 stroke as I think it is the better option for harescrambles.

Oh and I would not say that I strongly support 4 strokes but feel that this is the way the future is going regardless of what people may want.  My sons raced 2 strokes for many years and  one still does on a 125cc 2 stroke, but he also races 4 strokes and  with my boys having done difficult harescrambles through very rough terrain think that it may be easier on a 4 stroke especially for those with little experience.  But of course everyone is entitled to an opinion and who said I thought I was correct all the time.  I am just stating an opinion in an open forum like everyone else.

  4. if you dont want to move up to a 250f yet, then yeah, a 125 is good.... dont get a ttr, they are GUTLESS.

  5. YZ Yamahas are usually designed for motocross purposes only. For Hare Scrambles, you need one that lights attached to them.

  6. Any 125 MX bike is horrible for hare scrambles. Yes it would be better (in some ways) than your TT-R, but a very bad choice in general for that type of racing. The CRF150R expert might be worth looking at depending on your height. A 250F would be much easier to manage in the woods than a 125 2 stroke and is the same physical size.
