My cousins recently purchased a condo in Dubai and I'm nervous about going there. I heard it's great but I haven't talked to my cousins much. Would Me being Jewish be frowned upon? I'm not familiar with the relationship between Arabs and Jews? Especially in an area that has become, well, americanized. Pleaseee help.

  1. If you are not a jerk or something close, then it should be ok.

  2. If you're extremely outgoingly Jewish.....yeah you'd probably draw negative attention to yourself. Not as bad as if you were trying to walk down the street in Mecca or anything, but you still MAY be a target.

You can be proud of your Jewish background, I just wouldn't flaunt it where it's dangerous because that benefits nobody. Not you, not them, not God.

Other than that....Dubai is a neat looking place....but it's just ungodly hot there. Right now it's about 120 degrees, it gets hotter towards the end of July. The wind is usually a HOT wind, not a cool refreshing breeze like you're used to almost everywhere else. And on days the wind picks up.....it a hot wind full of SAND. It really really sucks.

Building a tropical paradise in Dubai was about as stupid as building a cruise ship in a septic tank.

  3. It is probably NOT a good idea. The people in that part of the world have a small minded hatred of Jews because of their small minded hatred of Israel (like a lot of the scientists on here, evidently). Don't forget that one of Hisbullah's many hostages was an Israeli Jewish man who went there on a business trip and ended up a prisoner in Lebanon for a year. The fact that you're American and Jewish just makes you a more attractive target. Besides, there's no reason for you to spend your money in a country that supports and/or launders money for terrorism.

Hyder: I stand by my assment of the UAE's support of terrorism by the simple fact of their political and financial support for the PLO, which is indisputable. As for the kidnapping, go to wikipedia and look up Elchanan Tannenbaum, then talk to me about getting facts straight.

  4. I've been living here for over a year and a half and haven't even heard about anyone being kidnapped... let alone a Jew.

The simplest way to get around that problem is not to tell people that you're a Jew. Americans are very well treated here, there really is no reason to tell anyone of your religious preference. You will not have any worries regarding your safety here, even if you go yelling out on the road that you're a Jew. This is one of the safest countries.

Some people have a close-minded view on their religious beliefs, and they will definitely frown upon you... try and ignore them. Never attempt to reason out your religious beliefs with such folks. You'll simply draw attention to yourself and you'll have more people to frown upon you!

Other than that, you'll have a blast in Dubai.

And James, if that question was in earnest, email me and I'll give you a 101 reasons for coming to Dubai.

Nicholas: This so called 'stupid' tropical paradise happens to be the fastest growing city on the planet.

Hot Toddy: The UAE has never supported or financed terrorists. Get your facts right!

Hot Toddy: "Elchanan Tannenbaum, (Hebrew: אלחנן טננבוים‎, born 12 August 1946) is an Israeli businessman and formerly a colonel in the Israel Defense Force. Tannenbaum's kidnapping was announced on 16 October 2000 by the Lebanese militant group Hizbullah after being lured out of Israel under the false pretenses of a drug deal"

He was lured into a drug deal, you might as well label him just as criminal. And that was 8 years back... ! At a time, when Dubai was a complete desert.

Saying some is indisputable doesn't make it so. Got something to support that claim?!

You still haven't got your facts right, toddy!

  5. why would anyone want to go to the middle east?

  6. dubai is basically jew-owned...and is a city built for rich jews like you

    so no

dont believe the media so much PLEASE

  7. Arabs/Muslims don't like Jews, there are exceptions to everything, but I know a lot of Arabs/Muslims, and they don't like Jews at all, not even one. But I don't think it's an issue there, but just be careful because you never know and it's not your country.

Yeah Jews in North America are rich, your cousins are examples lol, but hey it's not a bad thing.

  8. Not at all. All different religions live here. I am a christian we have a church here and have no issues.

  9. Just make sure you don't have an Israeli stamp in your passport, and you should be fine.  Dubai is full of different nationalities and religions, and everybody gets along.  Just don't flaunt it that you are jewish in a muslim country, and you will be fine.  Nobody will kidnap you here... it is one of the safest places in the world.

  10. he can live here but the only thing the passport shouldn't be stamped by Isreal
