Question:

Would an Angelfish get along with Tiger Barbs?

Ok, I'm addicted to fish......I had recently purchased a beautiful Black and White Zebra Angelfish, still a juvenile, he is not bothering my tank mates. My question is, I really want 1-2 more Angelfish, I am going to find a new home for my Black Skirt Tetras and one of my Jellybeans, but I would like to keep my Tiger Barbs. Would the Angelfish leave the Tiger Barbs alone? They are getting bigger fast and they are not aggressive with other fish. I have a 55 gallon tank that has:

2 Blood Parrot Cichlids, ( before you tell me that they are aggressive, they are not, they are over 2 years old and are about the calmest in the tank and do not bother anyone )

9 Tiger Barbs

2 Jellybeans

1 Clownfish ( soon will be 2 more, have a quarantine tank all ready for them tomorrow when I pick them up, I know the size that they can reach, they are very slow at growing)

4 Albino Cories ( expecting 3-4 panda cories tomarro as well)

1 small loach that will only reach 4 inches ( can't remember the name of it)

These I plan of finding a home for...if you live in Wisconsin and are interested & can pick them up, your more than welcome to them, very healthy and active buggers:

1 Jellybean ( white, not dyed )

6 Blackskirt Tetras ( one is long finned)

  1. I'm sorry to say this to you, but if you want angels, you must get rid of your tigers because they will nip the angels fins!  You will always have sick and shredded angels if you keep your barb!  SORRY!

  2. You have some fin pickers with the tiger barbs.  They may not be picking on your angel or Blood Parrots now but it's something that will happen in the future.

The Blood Parrot Cichlids (one of my favorite fish), will get as large as an Oscar.  The Angel should get along with the blood parrot as long as they grow together.

I know your enjoying filling up your tank with fish, try to remember 1 in of fish per gallon so your looking at 55 inches of fish.

    Good Luck

  3. Hi,

Tiger barbs are fin nippers so because of the large fins on the angelfish they will probably been eater, but just see how it goes really. If anything i cannot see why you are getting rid of the tetras as they are community so there shouldn't be a problem.
