I live in the Cincinnati area and there is only two state schools (Miami University and University of Cincinnati) that offer an MBA. Since I'm not that mobile, should I look into something else (like a Masters in Economics) or stick with the MBA?

  1. Either school is good. Look in their data in the  Official MBA Guide to make a comparison. Look at their placement data and starting salaries of graduates. You can use the Guide to send a pre-application to each school. Their response will indicate their degree of interest in you.

The MBA prepares you for management in any area of business. The MS in economics prepares you for a staff position, usually involving research. You have better possibilities with the MBA.

  2. getting a MBA from a state school is fine.

  3. Both are good schools.  The MBA is a broader and more widely applicable degree than the MS in economics.  So you will have more job choices with the MBA.  If you love economics and want to be an economist, of course get the MS in Economics.  But if you are looking to be successful in life and are willing to consider a variety of paths, the MBA will give you more options.
