The Bills, for the next 5 years, will play a regular season game and preseason games in Toronto (Rogers' Centre). B.C. Lions President Bob Ackles believes that the future of the CFL is at stake if an NFL team moves to Toronto.

  1. We could live without the Argos if they left,

but if one of the prairie teams folded

this league would be dead then.

thats how unimportant toronto really is.

  2. A permanent NFL franchise in Toronto would kill the Argos, but I don't know if it would kill the CFL.  If I'm not mistaken the CFL teams rely on their own gate revenue more than they do on shared TV revenue, which is opposite to the NFL.  So if the Argos disappeared it would severely limit the TV revenue but the league might still survive, especially if Ottawa and/or Quebec City and/or Halifax had franchises.  If the Argos disappeared I wouldn't give up my Als season tickets.  And I'd still watch ALL the games on TV, just as I do now.

  3. NO

  4. There is a huge difference between playing one game a year in Toronto and moving a team here.  The Bills will not relocate to Canada, mark my words.  And the CFL will be fine.

Besides, do you know who gets the first crack at tickets for the Bills games in TO?  Argonauts season's ticket holders, that's who.  This has lead to a large increase in the price of Argos season's tix, but that's a whole different story...  However, if you wanna get a seat for your one NFL game a year, the sure-fire way to do so is to buy tickets for 9 CFL games.  A clever marketing ploy, if I do say so, myself.

  5. certainly not.  No one could forget CFL after 95 years of history.

    :-)

  6. My answer would be no. The CFL has survived for almost 100 years the Argos are older than the league. I actually think NFL and CFL could not only co-exist but thrive. Hockey is the number one sport in our country, but I feel football could be number two within five years. It has a great following coast to coast. Now the CFL needs to work with the NFL to expand the Grassroots of football. Helping out with Minor leagues and universities. Football is thriving in Quebec, the CFL needs to get new CFL specific stadiums built in Quebec City and Halifax. Toronto is large enough and had enough corporate money to support the NHL, MLB, CFL, NBA and NFL. With over 5 million people in the area and another 2 or so less than two hours away this is a very big market.

  7. no, the cfl will stay around, the nfl is no threat

  8. no it gives the canadians something different to see.in the states they dont show the cfl games.they should so some of us can see the differents

  9. If it does not kill the CFL it would probably become more of a Western Canadian league.  Toronto in particular, Ontario in general, are the biggest Canadian markets, so the should CFL decline if the NFL arrives.  The NFL is very popular in Toronto. If people are willing to pay the ticket price during this experiment that will tell the future.  The NFL is tough to compete with.  If the NFL is deemed more cool, or better, it could replace the CFL in Ontario.  In other markets this is less of a concern, maybe because there is less cash to tempt the NFL.

  10. An NFL team into Toronto may kill the CFL in Toronto.  Fortunately, the rest of the Canadians don't care about Toronto.

  11. the bills are horrible but yes it would effect the cfl. no one likes the cfl as u can see there are only 4 questions here but in american football there are more people asking questions bcus they like it more. most ppl i no didnt even no about the cfl until a sucky player in ricky williams played in it

  12. WHY would Canada want to sell it.

Canadians and Americans both agree the sport skill set is different for each league, although some players do jump leagues for the money.

The NFL does not OWN the CFL, they would like to think so.

Toronto wants to be LITTLE NY and i lived there for 6 months so i know that first hand. This is their way to take a small market team and give it more exposure. The people of upper NY and Buffalo should be "crying" and stopping this from happening.

    GO LIONS cfl

    DOLPHINS nfl

    SEAHAWKS nfl

    those are my teams!!!!!!!

  13. Personally, I don't think that the Bills would ever move to Toronto. The Bills have probably one of the top 5 fan bases in the NFL. I also don't think Toronto could support an NFL team, because just like the Raptors, the interest of their selected sport is overrated than it actually is. Even if a team happened to move to Toronto, who cares? Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Calgary have the most die-hard fan bases of the CFL, so overall I don't think it would affect the CFL too much.

  14. With just a certain amount of games being played in Toronto I think the CFL is jumping the gun. While the NFL can be considered "superior" to what the CFL places on the field, they are two separate versions of the same sport and each has a niche that can be filled.

The CFL allows 3 downs, has a wider field, and deeper endzones. While the NFL might draw bigger crowds the CFL has nothing to worry about unless they start putting out an inferior product than what is currently out there.

Who knows, the CFL might become the next division of the NFL based upon numbers. It would be like the merger between the American Football League and the National Football League.

  15. Once again the CFL is a Canadian institution that will survive!!!   If Toronto feels they are not a good enough CANADIAN CITY to support and maintain a Canadian Institution then that is Toronto's problem and has nothing to do with the rest of Canada!!!!

  16. yes totally

  17. Yep it would shot it. The NFL would own the CFL, o wait it already does. And i mean it does everywhere. The NFL's product is a lot better, simple as that

  18. i love the cfl..and i am a lifelong bills fan..i hate the idea of the bills oneday moving to toronto..keep them separate..who's next....the browns and packers??

  19. Considering as how I'm a native Californian, I am a rabid NFL (and, for the last few years, CFL) fan, and have heard nothing of a potential expansion in Toronto through American sports media outlets, I doubt such a deal will even happen.  If Americans in major sports media hotbeds start reporting the incident, THEN there is cause for concern.  The CFL is its own brand, and thanks to the unique rules and a rabid fan base in areas that dont have an NHL team, I don't think it would be affected by an NFL franchise in the Toronto area.  Also, NFL owners that aren't currently making a money with their team like to threaten to move the team; it's just that this threat is apparently "annexing" the CFL is what is causing all this hysteria.  I really doubt the owner would pull the trigger on this one.

Also, if you haven't noticed, team owners threaten to move their teams qwhen they aint making that much money.  People in Buffalo are sure to show a great amount of support for their Bills to stop them leaving from town.

Finally, for all you Toronto residents out there that want this team, do remember it LOST 4 STRAIGHT SUPER BOWLS.  Don't know why you'd want a cursed team.  In short.....GO NINERS/RIDERS!

  20. If I remember correctly an NFL team can't move to Canada due to a now obscure piece of Canadian Law called the Canadian Football Act, which originally kept a WFL (mid-1970's) team from setting up in Toronto.  Unless it has expired I don't think the Bills would be able to "move" to Toronto.  If they were allowed to I think that it would probably kill the CFL in the east atleast as Hamilton would probably fold if they lost a rival in the Argos.  Montreal and Ottawa hawa repeatedly shown that they can't (or won't) support a team.  The cities of Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Regina,  and Vancouver have supported their teams through thick and thin.  The other cities that could gain teams have no track record to go by (Halifax, Windsor, Saskatoon) and are unknowns at best for replacement franchises.  Halifax seems to be the best of the 3 with the support that the St. Mary's U. Huskies have received over the years and the metro area's size of population
