I'm going to be an entering freshman, and I defintely want to be an econ major(I know things can change but, I know I want to take econ classes atleast). I was thinking of having a chem minor, but even the minor requires LOADS of classes and little free time. Psych requires less work and would leave more room for exploration, but does it sound silly w/ an econ major?

  1. You should do what you're interested in.  Nothing "sounds silly".  All majors have job opportunities - it depends what you want to do with your econ degree and minor.  Do you want to do I-banking?  Human resources?  Budget and audit?  It all depends where your interests lie.  If you like human behavior, take the psych minor.  If you like chemistry, take the chemistry minor.  The best thing to do as an entering freshman is just explore both paths (take a chemistry course and a psych course) and see which you would prefer.

  2. Psychology and Economics actually go very well together. Both are social sciences. Psychology studies such concepts as perception, cognition, emotion, personality, behavior, interpersonal relationships, and the individual and collective unconscious.

Psychology also relates these concepts to human activity such as family, education and work and thus it is the study of people, of individuals and their decisions. Psychology attempts to understand the role these functions play in social behavior and in social dynamics.

So I would take economics and psychology and leave chemistry to those who have the time to waste.
