Would an electronic keyboard be a good item to start making beats?

  1. If you have a lot of money to spend, yes.

    I prefer music programs on the computer. For making beats, or loops, I find FruityLoops is the easiest to use. It has several different drum components (I never knew there were 20 types of cymbals), including everything that a standard drumkit has... but it also has other instruments like bass and rythm guitars, flutes, triangles, trumpets... A lot of stuff...

    Unless you're great at making beats, I'd recommend you start off with FruityLoops or something, before you graduate to a keyboard. If, however FruityLoops is too stupid for you, you could try Acid, or CakeWalk... There are a lot of options...
