...if they knew people were praying to them? I don't think they would approve. All glory goes to God.

  1. You are right, all praise goes to God not humans.

(Revelation 19:9-10) 9 And he tells me: “Write: Happy are those invited to the evening meal of the Lamb’s marriage.” Also, he tells me: “These are the true sayings of God.” 10 At that I fell down before his feet to worship him. But he tells me: “Be careful! Do not do that! All I am is a fellow slave of you and of your brothers who have the work of witnessing to Jesus. Worship God; for the bearing witness to Jesus is what inspires prophesying. . .

This is what the angle told John can you imagine how God would feel if we worshiped a human who is lower then angles. Prayer is definitely a form of prayer.

  2. Birdy, did it ever occur to you that nothing is taken away from what is due to Christ alone by honoring what He has done in the lives of the saints -- including the fact that, by His grace alone, they are more gloriously alive in His presence than we are?

I am also sorry, dear.  Sorry that your catechesis was so poor that you were not taught the truth of this.  Even so, may peace be with you.

  3. Let's make this easier.  Examine your definition of prayer. Mine means "talking to".  Prayer is different from "praise" or "adore". If one thinks it is improper to pray (ask) saints (saints are ANY persons that have "made it to heaven") to pray for you or a loved one then I guess you'd better NEVER ask any (alive) human being to pray for you either.   ** You are a "former Catholic" and don't know this ? What does that mean ? Were you Baptized and that's all Catholicism was to you or did you have ANY religious training ?

  4. I agree with what you say!

I think that if they were able to look down on us, they sit in heaven weeping everytime this mistake is made!

    and Mary .................

This woman who received the grace from God to be chosen as a vessel is likely weeping in such pain from how she has become to be portrayed!  This, if they see us.

She, like all Christians, wish only for Glory to go to God alone - her son Jesus is the only worthy lamb,  glory be!

Since there is no pain and only joy in the presence of the Lord, I am unsure if they do see us right now, since seeing such horrible things going on on this earth has to bee heartbreaking.   So many being lead away from what is the truth of our Lord Jesus and the word of God.

  5. Catholics do not pray to the saints.  They ask the sainst to intercede for them with God.  Likewise the Virgin Mary, who is the mother of Jesus.  And as everyone knows, a good son always listens to his mother.

  6. You are right we only suppose to pray to God Jehovah. Jesus stopped a person from calling him good he said there is only one that is good. God. May God Bless

  7. Listen ...we don't worship Saints ....We do not pray to them as if they were God. I am sorry, and the Catholic Church is sorry you are not capable of differentiating ....Oh By the way ...the Saints Also Prayed to The saints before them...For help & Guidence...Not like you ..where you Worshiped them as if they could possibly Be Like God ...then you Patition God with your Pray....PLEASE ..GOD!! I need you to help me Find another Job,,, Please Watch over my Sick relative ....We Pray to the Sain't and ask them to Pray for us to God..( A Little Help!) instead you feel better asking a fellow church Member who is trying to get to Heaven...to pray for you ???? When we Die ...do we not Get ETERNAL LIFE.. if we follow in the way the truth and the Light??? So they are Alive in heaven ...why would you NOT ask some one in heaven to pray for you ...lol....Just so you Know ... the Word Saint ...means ...set aside for GOD!!!  these were people who lived this saintly life set aside for GOD.....You are getting Lost ...

  8. I always get a kick out of people who think their being a "former" Catholic somehow grants them credibility.

This. . .what you are about to read. . . this IS credibility:

God Desires and Responds to Our Subordinate Mediation / Intercessory Prayer

1 Tim 2:1-2 - because Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and man (1 Tim. 2:5), many Protestants deny the Catholic belief that the saints on earth and in heaven can mediate on our behalf. But before Paul's teaching about Jesus as the "one mediator," Paul urges supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. Paul is thus appealing for mediation from others besides Christ, the one mediator. Why?

1 Tim 2:3 - because this subordinate mediation is good and acceptable to God our Savior. Because God is our Father and we are His children, God invites us to participate in Christ's role as mediator.

1 Tim. 2:5 - therefore, although Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and man, there are many intercessors (subordinate mediators).

1 Cor. 3:9 - God invites us to participate in Christ's work because we are God's "fellow workers" and one family in the body of Christ. God wants His children to participate. The phrase used to describe "fellow workers" is "sunergoi," which literally means synergists, or cooperators with God in salvific matters. Does God need fellow workers? Of course not, but this shows how much He, as Father, loves His children. God wants us to work with Him.

Mark 16:20 - this is another example of how the Lord "worked with them" ("sunergountos"). God cooperates with us. Out of His eternal love, He invites our participation.

Rom. 8:28 - God "works for good with" (the Greek is "sunergei eis agathon") those who love Him. We work as subordinate mediators.

2 Cor. 6:1 - "working together" (the Greek is "sunergountes") with him, don't accept His grace in vain. God allows us to participate in His work, not because He needs our help, but because He loves us and wants to exalt us in His Son. It is like the father who lets his child join him in carrying the groceries in the house. The father does not need help, but he invites the child to assist to raise up the child in dignity and love.

Heb. 12:1 - the “cloud of witnesses” (nephos marturon) that we are surrounded by is a great amphitheatre of witnesses to the earthly race, and they actively participate and cheer us (the runners) on, in our race to salvation.

1 Peter 2:5 - we are a holy priesthood, instructed to offer spiritual sacrifices to God. We are therefore subordinate priests to the Head Priest, but we are still priests who participate in Christ's work of redemption.

Rev. 1:6, 5:10 - Jesus made us a kingdom of priests for God. Priests intercede through Christ on behalf of God's people.

James 5:16; Proverbs 15:8, 29 - the prayers of the righteous (the saints) have powerful effects. This is why we ask for their prayers. How much more powerful are the saints’ prayers in heaven, in whom righteousness has been perfected.

1 Tim 2:5-6 - therefore, it is because Jesus Christ is the one mediator before God that we can be subordinate mediators. Jesus is the reason. The Catholic position thus gives Jesus the most glory. He does it all but loves us so much He desires our participation.

  10. They do know!  And they're happy to help us.  Does not the Bible teach that anyone who says they love God and does not love their neighbor is a liar?  The saints hear our prayers and help us out of love for God.

Mary, the greatest saint and the one Catholics pray to most often, would not be rolling in her grave, as she was taken to heaven body and soul upon her death.

    God bless!

    Dave

  11. No. The Saints are all in Heaven praying to God for all of us.

And as a Catholic I do not accept your apology. Your question is being asked out of of both arrogance AND ignorance. Not humility!!!!

  12. No, I think they would be very happy that they were still considered to be members of the Body of Christ.  I know that i am always happy when someone asks me to pray for them.  It means that they feel close to me and know that I care about them.

Us asking the Saints in Heaven to pray for us does not take glory away from God.

  13. Praying to the Saints

"‘And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, "I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob"? He is not God of the dead, but of the living . . .’" (Mark 12:26-27)

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely . . ." (Heb. 12:1).

"And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints" (Rev. 5:8).

No, what they do instead is pray to Christ for you that you may follow Christ and what He and the Apostles told us to do.

  14. You cannot simultaneously allow "saints" to roll in their graves AND be upset that people are asking their help in praying for God.  Either they are aware and volitional or they aren't.  So, logically, no.
