Question:

Would anybody be willing to donate betta fish?

I am currently looking for someone whom breeds Betta fish. I am assisting a friend whom is working on their senior project in college. They are doing research on the genetics of colours passed down from betta fish parents to the fry they produce. Can anybody recommend a breeder/breeders whom might be willing to donate a few of their betta fish to carry out her project.

Note: No fish will be harmed by her experiment if we can help it (after all betta breeding is a rather violent ordeal) and all fish donated will either be adopted by myself, her, or given to friends whom will provide them a good home.

  1. they are fairly cheap at the petstore

  2. I would just get some at the petstore. If you're in the US... then Petsmart would be a good place. They're cheap and at least the one here gets a ton of different colors.

OR if you have a Petco near you, that's even better b/c they sell different tail types as well instead of just VTs and CTs that Petsmart sells.

BUT the downside of just getting them from a petstore like that, you don't know what the genetics are of the bettas that made those, so the fry could come out w/ alot of different colors.

If you have money to spend, you could always try aquabid for very nice, very high quality bettas. There are also breeders who sell their bettas on ebay.

  3. What country are you in?

Try betta forums and websites such as http://www.bettatalk.com. You're unlikely to get any quality fish for free though. Breeders invest a lot of money into raising healthy fry so will be reluctant to just hand them over to people.

Also, your research has already been done:

And there are dozens of other sites the same.

  4. try craigslist.com
