I am doing a project in my marketing class in college where I have to sell/advertise toothpaste to Vietnam and I need to know some basic do and don't about the culture there. Please help!

Its a good idea of selling tooth paste in vietnam. They sell the  exact same brand toothpaste over there but the mix or something is a bit differnt. My family always ask for toothpaste because the american concoction is better (:

And yes there is english on the boxes.

What is the living situation for people in the bigger cities?

- They have more chance to find a good job with good pay. Most of the time in a day is spent to work and to study more for a better job. Stressful. Not much time set for holiday.

Is there English on products over there?

- Yes.

Would it be offensive to have a dragon, lotus flower, or conical hat on the box?

- No. But what kind of box?

Do you think the name and flavor are good? (Pure, green tea flavor)

- Yes.

Are people trying to have better dental hygiene these days?

- Yes.

How much does toothpaste cost over there and are people willing to buy it even if they have low income?

- Roughly US$1 per 160 grams

Do older people buy toothpaste or mostly just the younger generation?

- Older people buy too.

What type of shopping outlets/markets are there in Vietnam? (Where is toothpaste sold?)

- Supermarkets, self selective shops, retailed shops everywhere, traditional markets, etc.

Is there a lot of ways to advertise: billboards, radio, television, something we might not be aware of, etc.

- A lot of what you can imagine. Door to door, leaflet sent to each family, phone selling, etc.

Are people willing to purchase American made products?

- Many loves American made products and are willing to pay, but some local products are good and better priced.

Can people afford to buy toothpaste? What if we give them a free toothbrush?

- Yes. They will love the free toothbrush.

Do people respond well to the free dental hygiene clinics offered by the other companies

- Only people who don't have to work during the office hours, mostly poor people and people who have the information.
