I have a 10 gallon aquarium. And it has aquarium salt in it and the hood is starting to rust. I wondering it its the salt or is it the material of the metal in the hood? would the hood still rust if i put water without the salt?

  1. Its probably a combination of the salt and water. Like the ocean and how cars and planes on islands tend to rust faster. It might rust slower without salt but if the fish need salt i suggest getting another lid that is plastic.

  2. Any metal around water will rust .You can redo your hood by doing the following. Unplug it clean it really well, remove your bulbs, mask off the sockets,Then paint it with child safe non toxic spray paint. Let it dry for at least 24 hours . Put a light coating of Vaseline on the bulb contact points and re-install them . Aquarium salt is very important to a tank so I hope this helps .
