I appreciate that not many people are likely to know this first hand, but if there are any historians out there or anyone else who might know, I would appreicate a sensible answer.

I writing a story and I have two MC who go and stay in a high class hotel during this period for their honeymoon. Do they have little forms to fill in or something, would their luggage be taken up to the room 4 them. I presume that the fact that they are minors (17) would have little effect as they are still legally married. Ta for your help.

  1. Their luggage would certainly be taken up to their room for them by a porter.  They would be expected to sign the hotel register.  it is possible that their extreme youthfulness might be a cause of some surprise to the hotel staff.  Not many people would get married as young as seventeen especially men.

If they were eating in the hotel restaurant then they would be expected to dress for dinner.  For the men, this would mean a black evening suit and stiff white shirt, for the women elegant evening dresses.  Dinner would be a long and elaborate meal with several courses.

  2. This might give you a feel for the atmosphere, although I realise doesn't answer your checking in question.

A main difference was that there was obviously nothing like TV in bedrooms, and hotels had a range of social rooms, bars, lounges, billiard rooms, writing rooms etc.
