Question:

Would connecting a component video into s-video downgrade my wii signal?

Basically what I want to do is take my wii component cables, and plug it into my k-world 1680ex (VGA Box), it does 1080p and whatnot. Unfortunately the highest signal it takes is s-video, so i'll end up plugging in the component cables into the s-video slots with the little converter wires that are provided. From the box it'll be straight vga to my 22" Samsung 226cw. Will using component to s-video downgrade the signal? Would going out and buying an xcm component 1080p box be better, or would it provide the same quality since the k-world box does 1080p as well? (right now i'm using the composite cables and the picture is somewhat fuzzy) All answers/suggestions are appreciated!

  1. It will be fine. If you were talking 42" or bigger it might be different.

  2. In every signal path, the output is downgraded to the lowest signal. In this case s-video. S-video can only carry standard def. video, so your output can't be better than SD.

Instead of spending money on converters, buy a monitor or TV that accepts component input directly from your Wii.

By the way, at 22" 1080p is irrelevant!!
