  1. you won't be riding long enough to experience the cardio vascular benefits! you need to ride at least 45 mins-1 hr. so even if you're slow on the bike, you'll want to look for at least a 10 mile loop. a fit cyclist will average 14-18 mph, so that person should be looking for a 14-18 mile loop.

  2. Probably not.   You need to work up to at least an hour a day to get anywhere near an acceptable fitness level.

Even with hills, a three mile ride should take you no more than 15 minutes.

  3. It depends where your fitness level is now.  If you run 10 miles a day then it might not increase your fitness level but surely help you become a faster runner.

So the quick answer is YES it will depending on where you are currently.  And cycling is the ****... don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  RIDE ON!

  4. Fitness is a measure of ones own body fat "efficiency". Cycling 3 miles a day may or may not be good for you. Think about the strain on your hear and arteries. If this is a new experience for them then that will be a bit of a shock! If not go for it!

  5. It would help if you are totally out of shape, but three miles is really nothing on a bike, even with hills.   If that's all you can handle right now, that's fine, but focus on increasing your time and distance each week until you can handle an hour minimum at an average non-competitive pace of 12-14 mph minimum.  Since you are riding to get in shape and not training for a road race, keeping a slower pace for longer periods of time is best for overall conditioning than killing yourself to ride at 18-20 and then bonking after two miles.

  6. if it is only 3 miles, you have to take every hill with all you got to get your hearth rate going. this would be an interval training
