Would deleting internet explorer and installing Fire-fox all on XP cause it to run improperly?

The computer is old and having both would cause it to run very slowly and cause too many problems.

  1. 1. You can't "delete" Internet Explorer. It's part of Windows. If you don't want to use it, disable it. But deleting is not an option.

    2. Trying to use two different browsers could certainly cause problems.

    3. Choose one or the other. Either uninstall Firefox and use I.E., or disable I.E. and run Firefox.

    4. If you choose to disable I.E., click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs then on Remove Windows Components on the leleft side of the A/R screen. Scroll down until you find I.E., and remove the checkmark. That's it.

  2. Just as Lucee answered - However, there are ways to live a life on Windows XP without Internet Explorer on your system.  Unfortunately it involves the reinstallation of the operating system...

There are packages out there of a release of Windows XP known as "TinyXP."  It is a stripped down version of Windows XP with several options of how you want the fresh install to include standard applications and such (if you want them at all for that matter).  Options include being able to install it without Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, unnecessary background services, and a lot more.  It's an amazing way to boost your system performance much faster than a standard install of XP would.  Releases typically include secondary boot options from the CD that include countless valuable utilities to bail you out of a situation where you're unable to boot Windows as well.  All Service Packs are slipstreamed into the installer as well so you don't have to sit through TOO much Windows Update drudgery.  It also is packaged with [dang] Small Linux and Hiren's BootCD (both bootable from the CD) among its many extra content directories.  You can get your XP installation so small that it will be small enough to easily fit and boot from USB flash drives if you wanted.

Google TinyXP if you'd like more information on it, you'll have to do some browsing of your own if you'd like to download it - it is distributed massively on most any decent Torrent Tracker.

I would not go so far as to say it's worth a complete Operating System reinstallation so you never have to see Internet Explorer anymore (almost worth it :P), but TinyXP is definitely one of the cooler things I've come across in my last few years.  I have it installed along-side Vista in a dual-boot environment so I can switch over as needed for better gaming performance and programs Vista does not agree with.

Downloading and installing TinyXP may be "illegal" in the eyes of Microsoft however, though I believe it to be rubbish since they're so gung-ho about making Vista (which I still consider to be Beta because of all the atrocious problems with it) the only version of Windows PC users will have available to them.. If you're a person that does not like the idea of using what is considered to be a 'Pirated' version of Windows, there are also ways to customize your installation of Windows with your very own purchased Windows XP disc by using XPlite.  I've not read much about the process, but you can find a link to it in my sources.

  3. It could. Go to start, run, msconfig and select the start up tab and uncheck things you dont want starting up in the back ground. Dont uncheck any Microsoft things unless you are sure u dont use them. Now click apply and restart. after that it will boot up saying somthing. Click dont show again and ok

  4. You can have both and you're computer won't run slowly - though if it has low memory it may be slow if you run both at the same time.

  5. Your question reflects a complete lack of understanding of any of the issues involved. If you could delete Internet Explorer from XP, it would definitely cause XP to run improperly. And having many programs doesn't make a computer run slowly or cause problems.
