We are considering an au pair from Durango Mexico. We would need her help to drive our kids in Minnesota on highways and freeways. Any idea if her driving experience, two years, daily in Durango Mexico would be enough experience for driving with kids safely, right away? No idea what the roads or driving conditions are like there.

  1. Two years is not very much driving experience.Durango is much different than Minnesota.Durango is in the desert region of Mexico so this person would have only very limited experience with driving on wet pavement and no experience at all with snow or ice conditions.

  2. In addition to the  concerns pointed out by the other answerer, Mexican driving habits are very different than those of U.S. drivers.  The laws will also be different.  Many drivers in Mexico have no driver training at all...many have no license.  Drivers in Mexico are VERY aggressive...driving rules and courtesy are very different.  You would need to consider giving her a driving course, then she would need a Minn. license. She may or may not be a good driver...but even if she is good, she will need re-educating for driving in Minn.

  3. Charlie as usual is right on ............ Its very aggressive driving and different here. Shes actually probably a good driver by American standards, BECAUSE of the insane driving pracyices.

I bet with your help she will adapt to Minn driving in under 2 weeks and be fine
