I'm thinking about singing either "Goodbye, Little Dream, Goodbye" from Anything Goes or "That'll Show Him" from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Are these good choices? And which one do you think would be better? If you don't think these are appropriate...some suggestions would be helpful.

  1. Good choices. Could also try Musical: Les Miserables

    Song: I Dreamed A Dream

  2. Honey, I am a competition judge.  We do not listen to the SONG - we listen to YOU.  You could sing Jesus Loves Me,  or Row Row Row your Boat, and we can tell in 15 seconds if we want to hear another 15 seconds.  Sing what you are TRULY comfortable with - it should fit your range, and NEVER cause you any strain ( I tell my students that showing strain or *bad notes* is like wearing a hot bathing suit to the beach - and finding out that your BUTT looks a mile wide in it!  It's not for YOU.)  Make eye contact - use facial expression - do not wrooy about body movement unless you know HOW to use the approriate gestures that would add, not detract.

You have chosen 2 excellent composers - their music lasts forever, and delights those that hear it.  This is NOT one of those uninformed "you go, girl!" posts.  I have taught vocal music since 1971 - and I say you have made a GOOD CHOICE.  Now - just breathe - relax - and make a good impression!
