I hate the sound of airplanes in the sky. I love that hybrid cars are so quiet. Voila - make hybrid or electric airplanes so they can stop droaning through the sky

  1. Sorry.  An electric or hybrid airplane is not practical, because of the weight of the components involved.  You are stuck with the sound of airplanes.

There is a medical condition, the name of which I cannot remember, that causes a person to be excessively sensitive to certain sounds.  You might consult your doctor for help.

    Good luck!

  2. They are not practical for a number of reasons.  They are also not quieter.

What you hear from a jet (the roar) is actually caused by the difference in velocity between high-speed jet core air coming out of the engine and the slower surrounding air.  Since jet engines will always derive their power from accelerating airflow and shooting it out the back of the engine, this noise will not go away, regardless of the method used to accelerate the air itself.

Even if an electric jet engine were developed, it would not be any quieter than what we have now because the source of the sound you hear is not from the combustion of the fuel itself but rather from the speed of the air getting shot out the back of the engine.

  3. THERE AIN'T NO ELECTRIC OR HYBRID PLANES. I believe the Rollsroyce Trent 900 is the quietest?

  4. Most noise from airplanes is not the engine- it is airframe and propellor (or fan) noise.  Modern large  airplanes are pretty quiet.

It is nice that hybrid cars are so quiet.  Light planes, with 2000 rpm propellors, are not going to get much quieter soon.

Good luck, it is a drag to be sensitive to noise.

  5. how close are the planes? are you next to an airport? are you talking about large jets or smaller cesa like planes? anyway, the motor would be very quiet. however, the propeller is the thing that makes the most noise on model planes. electric motors would only be quieter if the prop was redesigned. also, the batteries needed for long flights would be so heavy that it would be impractical. no one that is flying the planes or paying for the upgrades and higher costs cares about noise. my advice- move away from the airport. here, it is more about traffic going by than planes flying over, except for the occasional low flying helicopter. those are by far the loudest i hear. or, you could try box fan on high. it makes the same sound and it cools you off. then, you couldn't really hear the plane even if it was very loud.

  6. to make an aircraft noiseless would mean flying it outside the atmosphere, and that isnt going to happen any time soon. you still have to deal with the noise of the propeller/impeller depending on the propulsion design you choose as it forces air through or around the airframe.

  7. No, electric airplanes would not be silent.  Without getting technical, the mere sound of air flow  over/under an airfoil (the wing) will make noise. You also have compression, thrust etc...too many things that WILL make noise.

  8. You're an idiot.

  9. no because the fan or prop will still make noise cutting through the air.
